The SunMizer DC-DC Power Optimizer

The SunMizer DC-DC Optimizer™ is a new per-panel DC-to-DC power optimizer that performs MPP tracking at the panel substring level to increase power harvest. The SunMizer DC-DC Optimizer achieves maximum power flow from the panel during sub-optimal module operating conditions caused by shade and soiling to recover over 50% of system level power loss.

Improved Roof Utilization and Aesthetics

With the SunMizer DC-DC Optimizer, the system designer can now install more panels and increase system power production (see Design Guidelines).  Panels can now be placed on roof space that would not have been utilized in the past because panels in these areas would actually decrease system output. In addition, SunMizer DC-DC optimized panels can be installed in locations to match the roofline, avoiding odd shapes and cut-outs. This makes for a more attractive and aesthetically pleasing solar array. More power with an attractive system, a win-win for the system owner and the designer.  

Selective Installation

"Selective Installation" gives the SunMizer DC-DC Optimizer a unique advantage over competing DC/DC power optimizers that require a unit on each panel in a string. The SunMizer DC-DC Optimizer can be installed selectively, only on the solar panels that experience regular shade or soiling. Selective installation provides optimized power output at a lower initial cost and that means faster return on investment for the system owner.

Compatibility and Installation

The SunMizer DC-DC Optimizer is lightweight (< 2 kg) and its compact dimensions of 6" x 4" x 1.6" (15 x 10 x 4 cm) make it easy to install directly to panel racking with standard rack system fasteners and nuts. Each unit has an integral grounding lug that also accepts a ring terminal connection. The SunMizer DC-DC Optimizer is connected in-line with PV panels using standard series wiring schemes and does not require specialized wiring or "add-on" equipment.

The SunMizer DC-DC Optimizer is currently compatible with many rack systems including;

The SunMizer DC-DC Optimizer is compatible with a large list of 156mm cell architecture models from most major panel manufacturers worldwide. Panels with a maximum power rating of 250W (Pmax), 48V (VOC), and 9A (ISC) OR350W (Pmax), 80V (VOC), and 7A (ISC) can be used with the SunMizer DC-DC Optimizer (see SunMizer DC-DC Optimizer Compatibility Calculations). The SunMizer DC-DC Optimizer is compatible with most 208V and 240V residential size inverters.

Built to Last

The SunMizer DC-DC Optimizer is designed to last the lifetime of any solar installation and built with the finest long-life components and materials. A weatherproof NEMA 6 (IP 67) enclosure ensures that the unit will not be affected by dust intrusion, water or ice. Each unit is covered by a 20 year warranty that includes a replacement labor provision (see product warranty for full details). 

Safety Certifications

The SunMizer DC-DC Optimizer is certified to the UL 1741 safety standard and is compliant with FCC part 15 Class B emissions standard.  The SunMizer DC-DC Optimizer is also certified to the European CE and GS safety standards. All SunMizer DC-DC Optimizer components are RoHS compliant (lead, mercury and cadmium free).
